PHOENIX -- Kirk Triplett Tuesday introduced a winning cause for his professional golf game: helping find permanent homes for foster children as he competes on the 2004 PGA TOUR.

To bring this program to life, Triplett has formed a partnership with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Triplett's golf bag, custom designed by the Foundation to attract widespread visibility as he plays at each tournament, will display prominently a photo of a local child in foster care seeking a permanent home. Triplett also will use the public stage he has on the PGA TOUR to tell each child's story to media, spectators and viewers.

"My wife Cathi and I have two adopted children, Alexis and Kobe, who have enriched our family in many ways," Triplett said."With the new program, we want to introduce children like ours to prospective parents across America, with the ultimate hope that we create some permanent bonds."

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the adoptions of the more than 150,000 children in North America's foster care system, will help Triplett advance his cause throughout the TOUR. Via the adoption agencies it funds nationwide, Foundation staff will identify children to feature in each of 20 markets on Triplett's 2004 TOUR schedule. The Tripletts will invite the children, foster parents or guardians to each tournament.

The Foundation also will manage requests from families interested in adopting children or learning more about the process. Requests will be fielded via www.davethomasfoundationforadoption.org or 800/ASK-DTFA (1-800-275-3832).

"To Kirk, these 20 children represent thousands more waiting for permanent homes," said Denny Lynch, president of the Dave Thomas Foundation. "Life on the PGA TOUR is really demanding, so for Kirk to devote the time, energy and resources to educate parents about adoption is especially meaningful -- his passion for the cause is contagious."

The TOUR is one of several ways the Tripletts support adoption. Hosting the Dave Thomas Desert Classic in March, they will help raise money to support the Dave Thomas Foundation. Additionally, they have their own foundation, called Fore Adoption Foundation, which provides funding for financially challenged parents seeking to adopt.

Created by Dave Thomas (founder of Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers and an adopted child) in 1992, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the more than 150,000 children in North America's foster care system who have been freed for adoption and are waiting for safe, nurturing and permanent homes. The Foundation also provides critical grant-based resources to local, regional and national programs that, through results-driven and accountable activities, move children from foster care to permanent families and homes.
