Summer 1993
Kootenai Lodge has served as a gathering
place for nearly a century. Debi Rolfing is pictured with family members |
Mickey Drexler: Debi's mother wrote this adapted version of Camelot after her visit to Kootenai Lodge.
Kootenai
"A law was made a distant moon ago here,
July and
August cannot be too hot,
And there is a legal limit to the snow here, at Kootenai.
The winter is forbidden 'til December,
And exits March the 2nd on the dot.
By order,
summer lingers through September, at Kootenai.
The rain may never fall 'til after sundown,
By 8 a.m. the morning fog must disappear,
In short there's simply not, a more
congenial spot,
For happily ever-aftering than here at Kootenai.
The snow may never slush upon the hillside
By 9 p.m. the moonlight must appear,
Don't let it be forgot,
that once there was a spot,
For one bright shining moment that is known as Kootenai."
"Just sitting here thinking of the beautiful two weeks and dashed this
off.
Ha Ha! Sorry about the plagiarism Alan Jay Lerner.
Kootenai really is Camelot …" Love you both, Mom
Peter Preuss:
"Montana is heaven… And Kootenai Lodge is in the first class section (and Keresey Cabin is our favorite seat…)"
Summer 1992
Dan Quayle: Former Vice President of the United States of America, Dan visited Kootenai Lodge twice. His first visit was in 1991 when he was a sitting vice-president.
After his second visit in 1992 he was inspired to write this poem.
"We came to the lake to the fishes,
I didn't do too well, but oh those dishes.
I tried basketball, hiking and pool and could not win
I lost at everything, even gin
The food was great day after day
Everyone played pinball, even Kay -
Mark and Debi put on quite a show
It was even enjoyed by a mosquito -
You can tell my talent is very poor
So I will start walking out the door.
But before I go, I speak for all -
This was the greatest vacation of them all."
Tucker Quayle:
"I pray that every living being could see it, at least once if not twice. I truly long until I can again escape to its beauty."
Kay Fukumoto:
After a visit to Kootenai Lodge with her husband Ronald and baby Mitchell, Kay wrote: "There were days that I cried at lovely Kootenai Lodge, tears
of extreme joy."
Summer 1991
Dan Quayle:
"I have found paradise, it's called Kootenai Lodge, better known as Camp Rolfing." "Camp Rolfing is where the tired and weary become rested
and strong. Another smash hit."
Vice-president Dan Quayle, former roommate
of Mark Rolfing, visited Kootenai Lodge twice. |
Secret Service Agent:
"Kootenai felt like home and family, not an embassy, hotel or visitor's quarters. I've rarely seen the V.P. really relax and enjoy himself
as he did last week in Montana."
1990
Carol Burnett:
"I love it!"
Jim Nabors:
"Me too!!"
