Copper barons Con Kelley and Orvis Evans also sought its refuge and created a utopia in the wilderness.

Blending the luxurious and elegant with the wild and wooly they shared this spectacular place and era with famous figures such as John D. Rockefeller, Charles Lindbergh, Will Rogers and Charlie Russell.

Grand parties were held in the Main Lodge designed by Kirtland Cutter, architect of Glacier Park's Lake McDonald Lodge.

Entrance to courtyard

During one of his frequent visits Charlie Russell drew over a dozen pictographs in the courtyard of the Main Lodge

Tipi, Indian headdress and salamander were a few of the images created by Russell.

A tipi fashioned out of rawhide reflected Russell's respect and fascination for the old west and its Native American people.
